Alternatives to (sniff, sniff) SJT

It's true SJT "might" not be around forever. We all have data in XML format here. Have you tried other solutions ? Tried Importing SJT data? Likes, Dislikes, Notes?

Let's organize this thread as follows:

SideJobTrack.com
------------------------
PROS: A great site with invoice tracking, invoice creation via email and rtf, and a easy to use interface.

CONS: Might disappear in a year, No ability to remove services and customers once entered (easily). Really only suited to a single user (as per the site's design), not currently updated, no SJT XML import

Anyone Else Having Problems E-mailing?

For the last 3 days or so, I have been unable to e-mail my invoices. When I go to send them, I get an error message. I have tried to e-mail the invoices on different computers using different web browsers. I am not sure what the problem is. Is anyone else having this problem or can anyone help? Also, SJT has been very slow the last 8 months or so. I LOVE this application and I don't want to leave, but I am starting to fear that the handwriting is on the wall. I have tried at least 10 other online invoicing sites and none of them have all of the features of SJT. Can anyone help?

I Apologize & Quick Status Update

Hey,

First of all, I have to apologize for the silence and lack of upgrades to SJT. It's been a crazy time for me and what precious spare time I do have has been spent on non-SJT endeavors.

Second of all, I want to talk about the state of the service moving forward: As you know, SJT has always been a free service that you have used and enjoyed at your own risk. I do my best to keep things relatively bug free and stable but things happen. In this case, it was a server upgrade gone awry and I didn't get a chance until right now to get it fixed.

Soon, I'll get a bill for said hosting that I intend on paying to keep SJT open for another year. I mention this not for donations, but rather for transparency and to stress that you do as is advised all over the site and make proper backups of all data in addition to using a proper accounting package for work beyond the scope of SJT. Your expectation is that SJT will be around for another year, but things probably won't get better in terms of maintenance in the short to long term.

Finally, I thank the loyal folks who have thanked me and ask you to give them credit for keeping the application alive and kic--well, alive, at any rate.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,
r.

Thanks

Marie - Just a bit of thanks to you for keeping this open even with giving us the "silent treatment". It's great of you.

Hopefully you come back to us...we miss you.

Open Source JST?

I know that SJT is no longer in active development- so why not put the source code up on SourceForge or just release all the PHP files in a zip file with basic instructions for setting up on your own Web Server- that way people can still use SJT with no cost to Marie or anyone else, and even better, people can keep their data on their own private servers, should they choose.

SJT Inbound

Just an interesting note, I finally was on the other end of a SJT invoice! It was funny.

I asked the person and they confirmed they use SJT, too!

SJT Funding

I saw some news that Facebook might go IPO in the fall. It was rumorish but hey, us SJT users can dream.

BTW - I thought of another reason Marie has been quiet. She may have signed a non-compete which was very broad and is not allowing her at this time to work on this effort.

All of this post is pure speculation, but in other news, I am still using SJT and so are you.

I can't give up SJT either!

Maybe I'm just following blindly too dkaufman1 but I just can't give up my SJT. I've tried a bunch of tools also Blinksale, Freshbooks, QuickBooks, etc. But nothing quite compares to SJT!! I've even thought about breaking down and programming my own invoice tracker, but I hope Marie keeps the site going too!!

SideJob Strong

Just a quick post to let people know we can keep the conversation going here. Still using SJT? Still have features you want to see?

Marie is busy, but the list can be there for a time when she goes IPO with facebook. ;-)

Now SJT is being discontinued

As Side Job Track is being discontinued, chances are big it will close down sooner or later. I mean Marie has to pay expenses for hosting and all and my guess is that one day she'll post a message that SJT will close down. Too bad, but understandable of course.

So I'm looking to leave SJT and adapt a new web-based estimate/invoice system. I've been looking at Blinksale (http://www.blinksale.com) and it looks great but it's not possible to create estimates. Then I looked at Cashboard (http://www.getcashboard.com) and there you can basically do what was possible with SJT, but you can't design your own estimates/invoices which is a major letdown.

I was wondering what you guys & grirls are doing with your small businesses. Are you staying with SJT or are you leaving SJT for other invoicing software? If yes, what are you going to use or what are you using at the moment?
